Tri-Associate Conference – Best Ever!

Yesterday the Tri-Association held its 7th Annual Manufacturing Conference in Trenton, Ontario.  This was the best attended conference ever for the Tri-Association.   “The numbers are still being compiled but the attendance was fantastic” said Dan Ross, NMA President.

The organizing committee did a fantastic job to bring in speakers and topics that were particularly relevant given the global economic situation.  Keynote speakers include Jayson Myers, President of the CME who discussed the challenges manufacturers will face in the next 5 to 10 years.  Mr.  Myers also highlighted tremendous opportunities for the attendees to attack.  The second keynote speaker Kris Stevens, executive director of Ontario Sustainable Energy Association, discussed Green Energy and how it is being applied in Ontario, what opportunities exist for manufacturers and consumers.

All of the presentations from the conference will be available shortly.  Below you will find the Jayson Myers key note address available for download.

Myers and Stevens to Speak At Conference

Jayson Myers

Jayson Myers, the President & CEO of the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters will speak at the Tri-Association Conference on November 9th, 2011.    Mr. Myers is a well-known economic commentator, and is widely published in the fields of Canadian and international economics, technological and industrial change. He has been recognized by consulting firm Watson Wyatt as the most accurate economic forecaster in Canada.

Mr Myers will review what is happening in Ontario manufacturing, and the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.  While facing more intense competition, a highly uncertain economy, and rapidly changing market conditions, it will be up to manufacturers to take the lead in developing new customers, differentiating their products and services, and continually improving business processes.   Ontario Manufacturers will need new business strategies and effective ways of mobilizing people to transform their organizations to meet new business objectives.

Green Jobs?

Brad Robertson, the past president on the NMA board, recently came across this study which details the effects of public aid to renewable energy sources to jobs created (or lost?).

This report is a very good review of the experience Spain has had using the same model Ontario is using to develop green energy sources with high feed-in tariffs.  An interesting read for members.  Have a look and let us know what you think….
